Greece's new Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has said the country will not default on its debts at his first cabinet meeting.

Mr Tsipras used his first cabinet meeting to say his first priority was to help those in need and promised "realistic proposals" for an economic recovery.

The Syriza party was elected to government on Sunday. His pledge to not pay its debt from its €240bn bailout package led to speculation that Greece may refuse to pay any more of the debt and even leave the eurozone.

But after winning the election, the new PM insisted that he wants to re-negotiate the debt.
