Government borrowing fell by £7.5 billion in the first six months of the year, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

ONS figures show that public sector net borrowing, excluding public banks, was £46.3 billion between April and September.

In September, borrowing fell £1.6bn from last year to £9.6bn.

According to official forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), government borrowing will fall to £69.5bn in the financial year.
