Unemployment in Germany has fallen to the record low of 2.7 million after falling 6,000, according to the Federal Labour Office.
It it the lowest total since West and East Germany reunited in 1990. It follows a recent poll which showed that Germans are feeling more optimistic than at any point since October 2001.
Frank-Juergen Weise, head of the Federal Labour Office, said strong domestic consumer consumption was a key driver in the country's economic growth and reducing unemployment.
