Nearly two thirds (64%) of business owners in the West Country want to see a majority Conservative government after next week's election, according to chartered accountants Bishop Fleming.

The survey of 300 business owners in the area also found that if a Conservative majority was not possible, a continuation of the coalition between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats would be the second preference.

Just 8.5% said they would like to see a Labour majority, and 7% would like to see a Conservatives/UKIP coalition.

Bishop Fleming said it reflects the results of a separate survey it conducted which showed that 79% of respondents believe the Conservatives have the best understanding of business needs, compared to just 8% for the Lib-Dems, 7% for Labour, 3.5% for UKIP, and 2% for the Greens.
