One of the original members of BBC's Dragon's Den and former adviser to David Cameron, Doug Richard, has been charged with child sex offences.

The 57-year old former Dragon has been charged with three counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The Crown Prosecution Service claims the offences took place on 2 January 2015. The CPS also the offences related to a victim who was 13-years old at the time.

Richard will appear at City of London Magistrates' Court on 5 October.

Nearly 20 years after launching his first business, Richard was approached to sit on the panel of Dragons' Den. He featured in the first two series before stepping down. In 2008, Richard started the School for Startups.

Between 2008 and 2013, he published three reports on business and entrepreneurship on behalf of the Conservative party while in opposition and in government.
