Facebook is being sued by 25,000 people over alleged violations of European privacy laws.

Led by Austrian data protection campaigner and law graduate Max Schrems, the lawsuit has been brought against Facebook's European headquarters in Dublin over the way it gathers and forwards data.

Of the 25,000 claiming against Facebook, around 900 are UK-based.

Claimants argue that privacy laws are breached when Facebook monitors how users use the 'like' button. Mr Schrems says this is mass surveillance. The lawsuit is claiming around £362 per person.
