England kick off their Euro 2012 campaign this evening (Monday) in Donetsk against Group D rivals France. Time zone differences mean that the game will start at 5pm, when most of the country will still be in work.
“The whole nation’s going to be getting behind England tonight, and many people will turn to streaming the game on their computers while they’re still in work," Adam Jarvis, chief executive at Intrinsic Technology, commented.
“This could have negative consequences for businesses. If lots of employees are streaming video at the same time it can put serious strain on the internal network, causing critical applications and services like email and the internet to slow down.
“There’s no harm in putting the game on a big screen, and perhaps rewarding some employees with an early finish so they can cheer on the team. Everyone wins with this solution — let's hope England do too!”
