Recent research from the Solihull-based Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) has revealed that employees would like to learn more about the information provided on their payslip.

More than half (53%) of workers said they want to know more about tax, a quarter (24%) said they are interested in further details about National Insurance, a fifth (19%) would prefer to obtain additional information on their pension deductions and 4% said they would like to gain a better understanding of their student loan deductions.

Other interesting findings showed that if employees had a problem with their payslip, they would feel most comfortable approaching their payroll department (73%), followed by their boss (10%), a colleague (8%) and then finally their HR department (7%).

“Following on from our research findings which indicated that employees are interested in learning more about the details found on their payslip, we have designed an online tool to assist employees in deciphering their pay statement," Mr Lindsay Melvin, Chief Executive of the CIPP, said.

“We urge employees who have questions or concerns to take advantage of our virtual payslip tool as well as approach their payroll department. They have invaluable information at their fingertips and can provide insight into the various aspects of your payslip.”
