Creative Sheffield, the city’s development company, has reappointed Michael Hayman as a non-executive director.

The Seven Hills co-founder, who previously sat on the board from 2009-10, rejoins the organisation to sharpen its rebranding drive and build Sheffield’s reputation as the UK’s leading hub of advanced manufacturing.

Hayman will be tasked with ensuring that Sheffield maximises its international recognition at events such as MIPIM, the global property show held annually in Cannes, at which the city is expecting to have its biggest ever presence in2014.

With his advice, Creative Sheffield will also be seeking to further develop Sheffield’s national reputation as a home for entrepreneurs, and for innovation in sectors ranging from digital to advanced engineering, nuclear and aerospace.

Born in Sheffield, Hayman co-founded MADE: The Entrepreneur Festival, the UK’s largest festival for entrepreneurs, bringing thousands of start-ups, business leaders, politicians and national media to the city.

He is also chairman of entrepreneurs at Coutts & Co, a co-founder of StartUp Britain, sits on the advisory board of the National Business Awards, and serves as a Management Board Member on the Business School Small Business Charter. In 2012 he founded the E20, a campaigning group of leading entrepreneurs, led by The Duke of York, seeking to engage, inspire and support enterprise.

Hayman served on the Finance Commission Into The Future of Cities for Manchester, Birmingham and Westminster in 2011. He also chaired a task group for the Minister of State for Business Innovation and Skills to strengthen corporate support for Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Paul Firth, chief executive of Creative Sheffield, said:

“We are very excited to welcome Michael back onto the team at Creative Sheffield - his brand development and destination marketing expertise will be invaluable as we look to make a splash for the city on a UK-wide and international basis.

“He has a passion and affinity for the city, having grown up here, and his experience, marketing nous and contacts are second to none.”

Michael Hayman, co-founder of Seven Hills, said:

“I am delighted to be rejoining the board of Creative Sheffield. It is an organisation which has done so much to put the city on the map as one of the UK’s leading business and enterprise destination.

“Sheffield is a city that is on the economic front line. If Sheffield succeeds, Britain succeeds. It has innovation and creativity aplenty to share with the UK and the world, as well as outstanding growth potential in some of our most important business sectors."
