Tesla boss Elon Musk has dropped a hint that the company may be considering setting up a UK base.

Elon Musk, the much celebrated CEO of Tesla, said: "“We are likely to establish a Tesla engineering group in Britain in the future."

He was speaking as he announced the purchase by Tesla of German auto engineering firm Grohmann.

Mr Musk also said that Brexit will not affect his plans in the UK and that he is a big fan of UK Formula 1.

Mr Musk also said that he is considering setting up a second giga factory.

The first giga factory, to be based in Nevada, is a hugely ambitious project that could transform the global lithium ion battery industry.

There is the tantalising prospect that this second factory could be in the UK. If that is how it pans out, it will be quite a coup.
