Output in the UK's construction industry fell 0.8% in April, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The figure compares with April last year and contrasts with a 1.4% increase seen in March.

But the ONS said there was a welcome 1.6% rise new house building projects.

The ONS also explained that a change in its methodology indicated that construction output fell 0.2% in the first quarter, rather than 1.1% as previously reported.

It also said that the figures could have a real impact on economic growth. The ONS said growth in the first quarter could have been 0.4%, rather than 0.3%. And overall growth in 2014 would've been 3.1%, rather than 2.8%.
