Businesses are being warned against a new phishing scam which suggests a mistake has been made on their tax returns.

Accountants and tax advisors RJP said a number of clients had received an email which states they have made a mistake on their tax return and asks them to 'click here' to resolve the issue.

In a blog post on the company's site, Lesley Stalker from RJP said: "It is clearly a scam and we advise anyone who gets an email of this nature to delete it and not to act by following any enclosed links or by replying."

HMRC never sends emails to taxpayers, so any emails purporting to be from the tax man can safely be assumed to be a scam.
