UK Digital champion Martha Lane Fox recently said that "we need to make the country fit for purpose through the next decade and ensure everyone and every organisation has basic digital literacy."

Her comments came on the back of report that revealed that only 14% of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK were selling online. The same report, This is for Everyone: The Case for Universal Digitisation, highlighted that the UK could be £63bn better off if we achieved global digital leadership.

Today (Tuesday), at Google Campus in Old Street, the Hit Me! - How To Get Your Business To Punch Its Weight Online event set out to empower business owners with the tools they need to ensure they have a successful online presence.

With a stellar line-up of speakers, including Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, Allister Frost and Alexia Leachman, there was an abundance of information disseminated to the audience.

With the economy finally returning to growth, as confirmed by the Office for National Statistics today, the role of small and medium sized enterprises has never been more important in ensuring we now see a continued period of growth.
