BT today announced that a top executive with 17 years’ experience at the company is the new regional director for London.
Chet Patel will be leading the BT London regional board and directing BT’s activities in the capital during one of the most exciting times in London’s history.
“This is one of the greatest times to be living, working and visiting London - and BT is at the heart of this,” said Chet.
“We will be welcoming the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in July and BT is delighted to be the official communications services partner for what is arguably the biggest event on the planet this year.
“London will be the focal point of the whole world and it’s a massive opportunity for BT and vital that we help showcase the city, the UK and our technical expertise. BT has continued to invest in the network ensuring London can continue to not only compete, but lead on the world stage.”
BT has announced that 2.2 million premises in London already have access to BT’s super-fast fibre-based broadband network and another 350,000 will do so by the end of the year. This is part of BT’s £2.5 billion national investment roll-out programme.
Chet added: “I am determined as London director to help everybody in all the capital’s diverse boroughs unlock these wonderful technological opportunities for all their needs.
“And working in partnership with the public sector is going to be key as BT looks to ways of not only delivering transformational communications to communities, but enabling them to harness the potential it brings.”
Chet has a wealth of experience spanning a broad range of customers and industries and is keen to bring his knowledge and enthusiasm for technology to his new role.
Chet was appointed managing director of BT Wholesale Markets in November last year and his new role as regional director for London will run alongside this new challenge.
Other key roles he has held for the company include director of customer service at BT Retail, chief executive of BT Redcare and Payphones and vice-president of UK product and sales at BT Global Services.
