Jeremy Cook, chief economist at the rapidly expanding currency exchange broker World First foreign exchange, discusses the buoyant Australian dollar with Fresh Business Thinking, and how it reflects a broader economic success story from the antipode.
“Unlike its cricket team the Australian dollar was one of the stand-out performers in the currency markets last year. It has seen some signs of trouble in 2011, after the terrible flooding in Queensland and the potential damage that will cause to the local economy, however we doubt this will cause too many long term issues.
“With the Aussie dollar near record levels against a pound which is beset by austerity measures, we think this is a perfect opportunity for those Australians looking to come over to the UK from a currency standpoint. They might be able to pick up some tips about how to play cricket while they’re over here too.”
