Tim Cook, Apple CEO last night tweeted that 'Apple is dedicated to supporting the worldwide response to COVID-19. We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. Our design, engineering, operations and packaging teams are also working with suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for medical workers.'

He said that "teams across Apple have been working hard on ways they can support heroic medical professionals". Tim pointed out that "the number of masks we've been able to source through our supply chain has risen to nearly 20 million around the world". Working with government they are ensuring these get to people in greatest need.

Secondly, Tim said that Apple have launched a company wide effort bringing together product designers, engineers and operations, packaging teams and suppliers to "design, produce and shi[p face shields for health workers" and they plan to ship over 1 million a week from next week hoping to quickly expand distribution "beyond the US".

He described the act as a statement of "love and gratitude".
