Amazon is set to turn the world of book publishing on its head by changing the way it pays authors.

From next month, Amazon will pay authors who self-publish their books on its Kindle e-book platform on a pay-per-page read basis, rather than on the number of times the book has been borrowed.

Amazon said it would better align payouts with the length of books and how many pages are actually read.

"We're making this switch in response to great feedback we received from authors," Amazon said.
