Amazon has announced a partnership with Royal Mail which will see the internet retail giant deliver parcels to post offices.

It comes after Royal Mail warned that delivery rivals, including Amazon, were hurting profits. It said that Amazon alone was impacting by 2% in the short-term.

As part of the deal, Amazon parcels will be delivered to over 10,500 Post Office branches by Royal Mail.

It means customers will be able to collect their Amazon parcels from more than 16,000 locations around the UK.

Customers will be able to select one of the Post Office locations and present ID when collecting their parcels.

"This is a good thing," said Lindsay Mackie, an expert on Royal Mail from the New Weather Institute.

"Royal Mail needs to open up to be convenient for customers.

"The problem with post offices is the opening hours."
