Amazon has received permission from US authorities to test the use of drones for delivering parcels.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said Amazon has a certificate to allow people with pilot's licenses to test the drones.

Under US law, operating drones for commercial reasons is illegal. But the FAA has said that the drones must stay under 400ft and remain in sight of the pilot.

Following the FAA's approval of Amazon's testing, the regulator is expected to look at changing the law.

Amazon has been asking for permission since July and in December, even suggested that it may look to test the drones in other countries.
