Aker Solutions, a Norwegian oil services company, has announced today (19th August) that it will create 500 new jobs in the UK over the next year.
The company plans to recruit 300 staff to its Aberdeen operation and to create 200 positions at its newly established engineering office in Chiswick, West London.
“I am delighted that Aker Solutions are expanding their presence in the UK," Commented UK Trade & Investment Minister, Lord Green, "and are announcing five hundred new jobs in London and Scotland. This underlines the UK’s leading position as a base for knowledge-intensive industries.
“UK Trade and Investment has worked closely with Aker Solutions over a number of years to support their investment and expansion into the UK. Today’s news is further testament to the UK’s attractiveness for inward investment.”
Two hundred new posts will be created in Aberdeen are for the subsea technology business, with a further seventy positions relating to support work for maintaining and upgrading North Sea oil platforms.
Aker Solutions are also tapping into the London oil and gas market as they look to set up a global engineering hub to support their worldwide oil field development projects. As well hiring, approximately 200 engineering personnel to its new London offices based in Chiswick Park, they are looking to create up to 500 further jobs here by the end of 2015.
Aker Solutions is one of Scotland’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 2,500 people. In addition the company has smaller offices and facilities in Great Yarmouth, Maidenhead, Stockton-on-Tees and Whitstable. Worldwide, the company employs 23,000 people in 30 countries and has annual revenues of approximately GBP 3.9 billion.
The World Investment Report, published last month by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) shows that the UK is the most favoured destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Europe and third worldwide.
