Despite the adverse weather conditions across the whole country, Thursday 23rd December is set to be the busiest shopping day of the year with the nation’s shoppers set to spend an average of £833,000 every minute according to analysis by VISA Europe.
The plummeting temperatures and continual snow fall over the last ten days has seen a drop in the usual number of visitors to the High St, however, with Christmas just days away, shoppers are predicted to arrive en-masse on Thursday in a bid to complete their Christmas shopping in time for Christmas day.
VISA Europe predict over 18,000 card transactions are set to take place every minute with around £14,000 to be spent per second expected to be spent in a final push for gifts before Christmas.
It is predicted that Thursday’s spending is set to smash previous records. The combination of bad weather and the annual last minute dash for Christmas purchases mean that VISA expect to process a staggering 26.5million transactions, worth more than £1.2bn on Thursday alone.
