Amazon have announced that they will create 100 new jobs at their new global Digital Media Development Centre in London, further confirming East London's reputation as a world leading technology hub.
The new jobs will be created alongside hundreds of current staff, who are relocating to Old Street where Amazon will move into a 47,000 square ft building.
“It’s a pretty ringing endorsement of the skills set and talent of people in London,” Paula Byrne, managing director of Amazon’s digital media development centre said.
Tech City Investment Organisation’s Deputy CEO, Benjamin Southworth, was delighted to welcome the American giant to London.
"We're delighted to welcome Amazon to London," he said of the announcement.
"Their decision to open their Digital Media Development Centre here is testament to the incredible pool of talent London has at its disposal, and the unique combination of technical expertise, culture and the creative industries that makes this city the home one of the most exciting tech clusters in the world.
"The new jobs created show that the East London tech scene is booming, and is a real economic success story."
The news will be welcomed by Boris Johnson, who attended the opening, and is looking to ensure the city builds a business legacy on the back of the hugely successful Olympic and Paralympic games.
