Simon Darling

Simon started his career as a graduate trainee at Unilever, qualifying as an Accountant. A bold step at Unilever saw him move into a Strategic Development Role as Interactive Marketing Manager, having highlighted the huge implications the internet was to have for the organization. Consequently he built a network of internet marketing agitators across the business culminating in the focusing of resource in North American and European Interactive Brand Centres. Two $15m three-year deals were done with AOL and MSN making it at the time “the world’s largest commitment to internet advertising” (CNN, 1998).


Simon went on to found FonePark a business providing location-enabled SMS text messaging chat services to consumers and businesses. Within 2 years he had secured an equity deal with Bolt, a venture-capital backed, US incorporated, web and mobile youth communications platform service. Furthermore Simon took responsibility for sales of Bolt’s in to the major European telecom operators, manufacturers and media companies.


Then followed 4 years with eBay, as part of the management team that reorganized the UK business and leading the development of UK strategy and global projects in Marketing and Customer Development. He has since founded Headingford, and has consulted on marketing leadership, building customer-centric marketing infrastructure and leadership development working worth clients such as Tesco, Microsoft, Joost, and Warner Music, and an interim VP Marketing role for Skype Management Team. Simon’s most recent venture is Quiet Riots, an online business. Still in its development, Quiet Riots enables people to change things by grouping together - using the technology we have at our fingertips to organize ourselves and make change happen.
