Government urged to consult small firms moreThe government should make more of an effort to consult and listen to the UK's small businesses when implementing new policies, the Forum of Private Business (FPB) has said.

The comments follow the launch of a Cabinet Office review into the government's consultation process, from which regulation minister Hilary Armstrong has promised a more receptive, constructive process can be found.

However, the FPB is worried that at present the interests and concerns of smaller businesses are being overlooked, something it hopes the current review can be used to help address.

"As a minister I really value consultation because it helps us to make better decisions. Everyone benefits from good consultation. By listening to concerns from businesses and third sector organisations about how we consult we can continue to make improvements," said Ms Armstrong.

"In the UK the government must give a 12-week consultation period which is welcome. Where the process falls down is the assessment of the potential impact of new or amended regulations on smaller firms and we hope that the review can concentrate on that," added a FPB representative, reports Shout99.

The government review is open to submissions until September 28th.
