The Colour Works Involved in World Record Polar Expedition to the Arctic Pole

Well-known training and development company, The Colour Works, is working on its most exciting project to date - helping develop the team of intrepid novice expeditioners making a world record attempt to reach The North Pole of Inaccessibility!

Defined as the furthest point from land on the Arctic Ocean, the Northern Pole of Inaccessibility remains the last truly significant place in the Polar Regions yet to be reached by mankind. It is over two hundred miles further than the Geographic North Pole. The whole journey will be near to 800 miles from the northern shores of Canada.

Four teams of 7 individuals from all walks of life and various nationalities will each take on a 200-mile leg of the 3-month expedition over treacherous sea-ice starting in February 2010. Along the way they will be collecting vital data about the state of the polar ice cap and the possible impact of global warming.

Expedition leader, respected and experienced Arctic explorer Jim McNeill, says "There are so many things that can go wrong in such dangerous terrain and conditions, it is vital that everyone has not only the right technical skills - navigation, rope work, camping, medical skills - but also the ability to pull together as one team, supporting each other through stressful times and learning how to play to each other's strengths. A team that fails to do this will not achieve its goal. That's why I'm delighted to have secured the services of The Colour Works."

Using their core learning programmes focusing on developing self-awareness, leadership and team-working skills, The Colour Works will work with Jim and his team in the lead-up to the expedition.
