SME overview

SME's account for over 99% of the business population but
because of their diversity and fragmentation they are a difficult
market to reach using traditional marketing methods.

> There are 4.3 million businesses in the UK

> 99.9% of all businesses are SME's (1-249 employees)

> 99.3% are small (1-49 employees)

> 0.6% (27,000) is medium-sized (50-249 employees)

> Only 0.1% (6,000) are large (> 250 employees)

> SME's account for 58.7% employment and 51.1% of turnover
