Web 2.0 refers to the second generation of the World Wide Web, in particular the movement away from static web pages to dynamic and shareable content. Web 2.0 cannot be defined in just one standard way...

...as it refers more to a set of characteristics than just a single change.

Examples of Web 2.0 websites are MySpace, YouTube or Twitter.

Web 1.0 on the other hand refers to the state of the World Wide Web before the perceived 'changes'. A more 'static' World Wide Web.

There is no exact date when the Web has changed from Web 1.0 to 2.0, but many agree that the 'burst of the dot-com bubble' in 2001 is a good estimate.
