Most online businesses by now know the importance of inbound links but many don’t know where to begin with a link building campaign. Many companies focus on quantity over quality, or focus on one particular method of building links and neglect other channels. When looking at your link building strategy you need to make sure you are building a “backlink profile” which gives you a balance of quantity and quality links.

Search engines use links as votes as to the quality of relevance of a website so you need to consider how many “votes” your website has, as well as the strength of these “votes”. The search engines will look at the “backlink profile” of your website and consider the number of links you have, the quality of these links, and the anchor text they use.
A good backlink profile consists of a variety of links from various sources, linking to different pages of your website. No single tactic should make up your link building efforts and you should vary your target pages and anchor text to give yourself a solid foundation of links.

Quality rises to the top
There are many methods for generating links to your website. In markets with a reasonable amount of competition you will find the same tactics being used by most of your competition so you need to look at finding quality link sources that will make you stand out from the crowd.
